About Thataways

How It Works

We help you find local places, interesting spots, happenings, and people that are easy to miss.

We look for local

We look for farm stands, small makers, community gatherings, trails, lookouts, and other local things worth sharing. We curate the guide by choosing discoveries that help you get to know a place and its people. We aren't trying to list every business or become a shop, review site, or social network.

We review, and leave room for change

We review information before sharing it. Hours, offerings, and plans can change, so we show when a detail was last reported or confirmed. When we say Listing updated, we mean we edited the listing; it doesn't mean we checked every detail again. We encourage you to check the details before making a special trip.

We help you explore

We put places, spots, and happenings on the map when they have a public location. Some pins show an approximate area rather than an exact address. We also include Local People & Groups, who may serve the community without a storefront or map pin. You can explore without an account.

We keep improving the guide

We aren't taking public suggestions or corrections right now. We continue to review and improve the guide.

Location privacy

We ask for your location only when you choose Use my location. You can choose a town instead if you prefer.

We send your location to our server to find nearby results. We use it temporarily for your search; we don't save your precise location in our records or track you as you move.

We use OpenFreeMap to display maps. When you open the map, that service receives map requests and can tell which area you're viewing. We don't add your precise browser location to those requests. You can still use the list if the map is closed or unavailable.
